You will not be surprised to know that an increase in exercise is recommended alongside the GL Diet – after all, even slow release carbohydrates produce energy which needs to be expended if it is not to disappear into the fatty recesses of your body.
I have yet to put the GL Diet to the test, but I think Nigel Denby and his two colleagues Tina Michelucci and Deborah Pyner, have put together a logical plan to help everyone lose weight, in an exciting format which should help us get over the first hurdle in adopting a weight-loss plan: doing it, rather than thinking about doing it.
The whole GL Diet is built round the principle of little and often as far as eating is concerned. There should be no temptation to snack on items outside the plan, because the aim is for three proper meals a day, with two scheduled snacks to fill in the gaps – all based on slow release carbohydrates.
There are full detailed 7-day plans for the five eating times in each of the three GL Diet groups mentioned above, and the idea is that meals should be interchangeable between the plans (so there is an alternative, if there is a food you really hate), and that one 7-day plan should become two 7-day plans, two should become three and so on, until the GL Diet becomes a way of life.

When I received Nigel Denby's book, I never expected that it would solve that dilemma, but the slow-release carbohydrates my dietician suggested are the basis for Dr. Denby's Glycaemic Loading, or GL, diet.
All those slow-release carbohydrates are listed in the book and analysed in considerable detail for their contribution to the GL lifestyle.
There are over 100 tasty recipes in which the carbohydrates play a starring role. That is not to say there is total exclusion of bread, pasta, rice, and even chocolate (yes, chocolate), but they are confined to supporting roles only.
I like the way the recipes are presented: there are separate sections for vegetarians (The Veggie Friendly 7-day plan); easy recipes for carnivores who don't enjoy spending time in the kitchen (The 7-day Fast and Friendly plan); and more ambitious recipes for cooking carnivores (The 7-day Foodie Friendly Plan).

So there I was – aged 63, 6' 1" tall, as wide as a barn door, weighing 20 stone and recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes – and facing a dilemma.
My doctor says I have to cut back on carbohydrates to lose weight (I've lost a stone and a half in the last year, but there's a long way to go). My diabetes dietician says I must eat three meals a day, and that each meal must include carbohydrate. She recommended "slow release" carbohydrates, rather than the high glucose foods which produce a surge of insulin in the pancreas, but did not give any information about them.
So how could I eat carbohydrates, and cut back on them? It would be like having your cake and eating it (if we were allowed cake)

Easy to read just several things that irritated.
"remember a time when you sucessfully dieted.." Hmmm if I had been sucessful I wouldn't be reading this book!!
However printing a vegetarian recipe that calls for chicken stock is just plain silly.
Clearly I need a mood makeover.....
i love my book it balances the other one just right ... ( i was worried that it was going to be the same as the recipe book ) but not only are there different foods there is a different set of menus as well , plus plenty of tips to motivate you and start you exercising ... thankyou fat happens this food plan really works for me .

I am so pleased to have received a copy of this book. I followed the 10 day plan, and am delighted to say that I have lost 4lbs. It is easy to follow, and the recipes are quick and easy.

This book is fanastic and together with GL Made Easy I have a good variety of ideas, menus, recipes and tips. Will let you know how I get on but not weighed until 4th April.

I began with the GL diet cook book very successfully. My GL diet book came last week. It really is a fantastic diet, I have lost 4lbs already, and feel so very much better.
