The Royal Parks Foundation launches the Hearts & Heritage Walk

www.gdaguru.com today reports that following the news that walking makes you more intelligent and can prevent cancer the Royal Parks Foundation has announced the launch of a new walking challenge.  02-09-2010
Following the huge success of the annual Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon - now in its third year - The Royal Parks Foundation is delighted to announce the launch of its inaugural Hearts & Heritage Walk – the perfect challenge for those who want to take part in this uplifting day at a slower pace than a run!

Taking place on Sunday 10 October (the same day as the run) and setting off just 40 minutes later at 10.10am, the Hearts & Heritage Walk will follow a stunning 13.1 mile trail, taking in the beautiful scenery of four of London’s Royal Parks (St James’s Park, The Green Park, Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park) as well as passing some of the City’s most iconic buildings and landmarks.

Sara Lom, Chief Executive of The Royal Parks Foundation comments; ‘This year, we really wanted to make the Half Marathon inclusive and accessible to everyone of all ages and all levels of physical ability.  We understand that not everyone is able to participate in a running event.  With this in mind, we have created an additional element to the day to encourage non-runners to join this annual celebration of the Royal Parks and experience the same race-day excitement and finish-line success as our 12,500 Half Marathon runners.”

Created to suit everyone, the Hearts & Heritage Walk comprises two waves:
1. The Hearts Wave – a dating wave that will provide those looking to meet like-minded people with a wonderful opportunity to mingle in a relaxed fashion in some of the most romantic and scenic spots in London.

2. The History & Heritage Wave will take walkers on a guided journey through London and offer a fabulous chance for families, couples or groups friends to walk a stunning route whilst learning about the Parks and London ’s history and heritage (including recent events) along the way.

For those who love a walking challenge or are looking for romance, this new Hearts & Heritage Walk will be the perfect day out this autumn.  With space for up to 650 walkers, the event is a fabulous way to encourage family and friends to get out and about and join in the fun of the Half Marathon race day.

The course, starts and ends in Hyde Park and passes some of London ’s most iconic landmarks such as Wellington Arch, Buckingham Palace , the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye and the Albert Memorial.  The course, will be 13.1 miles long, however walkers do have the option to choose a shorter route of six miles.

All walkers taking part will experience the inspirational race day atmosphere created by the tens of thousands of spectators. And they will also enjoy the Brakes Food & Fitness Festival in Hyde Park where there will be have-a-go sporting activities for all the family plus the chance to sample great British food.

Registration for the Hearts & Heritage Walk is open until 10 September and costs £45 for which participants will receive their walk entry, timing chip and t-shirt, plus a medal when they finish.
