Nigel Denby’s comment: This kind of story get’s me a little riled to be honest. I am sure the figures from which to story has been written are accurate but it’s talking about the number of people who became so drunk that they did something to cause them to go to hospital- there’s no mention of the middle classes sitting at home or in wine bars after work each night drinking just too much to drive but not so much that they fall over and break their arm. The ill effects from alcohol are not a working class problem and the effects of long term, frequent drinking cannot be underestimated.
