Medics' 40kg Weight Loss After VSG

Michael Dermody of Cosmetic Bliss had a Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy [VSG] in Sept. 2008. He is now 40Kg lighter and is free of the hypertension and other problems which led to his surgery.08-02-2010

He believes the Sleeve has advantages over Gastric Banding and Gastric Bypass, and believes it won’t be long before it becomes the first choice for patients looking for weight loss surgery.

Michael Dermody and his Cosmetic Bliss partner Deborah Darling had been bringing patients to Dr Michal Cierny’s Bariatric Clinic in the Czech Republic for weight loss procedures for several years before he underwent the surgery himself. His weight had increased over the years and at age 52 with a BMI of 38+ and other obesity related health problems, surgery was the sensible option.

Michael Dermody says: “Dr Cierny decided I would be a good candidate for the Sleeve Gastrectomy (Gastric Sleeve) operation. It has become very popular in the last few years, and I think it definitely has the edge over the gastric Band.

About 80% of my stomach was removed, so I have a very small stomach pouch which restricts the amount I can eat. I firmly believe that the Sleeve will become the first choice operation for many patients as information on it becomes more widely broadcast.”

I agree that this will come to replace the band too Ive had a VSG as I didnt want a bypass and didnt want to mess around with band fills. I am just under 1 year post op and have lost over 100 pounds in weight and I love my sleeve, I was lucky enough to get mine funded by my NHS trust too
