This is my story
I have been over weight for years. i was bulimic for a few years. I became morbidly obese after being diagnosed with a rare medical condition called Benign Intracranial Hypertension in 1998. My body produces too much cerebro spinal fluid which causes high pressure in and around my brain, the symptoms can mimic a brain tumour without the tumour being present. Before i had a lumbar peritoneal shunt inserted i was unable to function normally. My eye surgeon referred me to an excellent surgeon for a gastric band to get the weight off quickly before i lose my eyesight. After 2yrs of waiting i had surgery August 9th this year, i weighed in at 21 and a half stone. 5wks after surgery i had lost 3stone but i was in tremendous pain and became unable to swallow as it was too painful. I was rushed into hospital and the doctors said it was due to the band being so tight, they said the band will loosen as the weight goes, still in hospital, a week later a tube popped out of a wound site. My surgeon, bless him, had never experienced that before. He operated and found that i had an infection in the port-hole and tube that connects to the band. He removed that and left the band in place. It's been nearly 3months now and i've lost four stone. I'm still in a lot of pain and on a soft diet, please help. I need new friends.
