This is my story
Having tried every diet, every kind of slimming pill and been a yoyo dieter for the last 15 years. Having asked for help from various GP's at my GP's practice and never really getting any.....always just told to exercise and diet. I have an under acive thyroid and a duplex kidney and a mirena coil all working against me!
I read Anne Diamond's story a couple of months ago, in the sunday paper. Anne inspired me to find out more about having a gastric band fitted - I went straight to The Hospital Group website - I thought if its worked for Anne it can work for me. If it's safe and reliable and good nough for Anne then its good enough for me.
I have just had my operation, I came home from hospital yesterday, having had my band fitted Wednesday 15 November 2006
My heaviest weight I've been was 15 stone 9lb. I was about 14 Stone when I went in for my operation. I was just on the BMI line to make me eligable for the obesity sugery.
I've had mixed responses from my family (have only really told my close family) Most said "but you always look lovely and isn't this operation rather drastic?"
My husband supports me fully and he knows and understands how important it is for me to lose this extra 4 stone of weight. As does my mother.
The cost was a big issue for me, but I work hard and I have had 3 children and now have a baby grandson and over the years I must have spend a fortune, trying to lose my weight - so I figured that I owed it to myself, I deserve to do something for me! Years ago I could not have afforded it.
The operation went very well and my wounds are already healing well, 5 little scars that have been glued together all under my boobs, mainly on my left side, starting right in the middle, where I think my port is.
I'm feeling very tired but also quite well and happy that it wasn't as bad as I thought if would be - I'm quite excited now.
