This is my story
My story?? I've been led to believe that I've always been FAT, ever since I was in primary school. I remember starting my first crazy diet when I was in Primary3. My mum was on this diet that was made up of 2pints milk, orange juice, and raw eggs, you drank that alone for 4 days of the week, and then ate moderately for the next 3 days. Then you started with the juice again and so on. She said I should go on it, so trying to keep everyone happy, I agreed. How stupid was she? When I look back at those childhood photos now, I can see that I wasn't even fat, I just wasn't as skinny as my brain box, older sister. Anyway, that was the start of the yo yo cycle. Weight going on, weight coming off, only to be joined by more when it came back on. When my motivation has been strong I have done well on healthy eating plans, I liked Rosemary Conley's diet, and I have used it often with good, albeit, short term success. So here I am now, 47 years old, mother to 4 lovely girls aged between 25 -13, although only the two younger ones are still at home. I had to stop working about 4 years ago, 2 years after I was diagnosed with MS. Over the last 4 years, I've put on about 5 stone, and it was at a check up with my nurse, last month, that I made the decision-ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! I've managed to cut out the salt, and most of the alcohol, but the weight is very slow to come off, possibly because I am unable to do much excercise, however, I have bought a pilates ball and DVD, so all I have to do now is START USING it :-) |
