This is my story
I'm 21 and currently in my final year of university... i am one week away from my gastric band surgery with the Hospital Group, both me and my mum are having the surgery on the same day! It's taken a lot of thinking and its been an emotional rollercoster to get to where i am today. i finally decided to seek help when i reached the heaviest weight i've ever been and to be honest i'm at rock bottom with my self esteem. both my mum and i have suffered with out weight for years, i've been on yo yo diets for as long as i remember... probably since the age of 10 and i always put the weight i've lost on again plus some more!
I'm fed up of feeling self concious and unhappy about my weight! I'm having my op 2 weeks before xmas so new year is really a fresh start for all of us! I have every faith that the band will aid my weight loss but i know its not going to be easy i need to work really hard to make it happen!
My goal is to have lost enough weight to buy a gorgeous dress for graduation in september and have my pictures taken feeling wonderful!!
17.12.06 I'm now 8 days post op and feeling great! I have to pinch myself sometimes cause i can't believe i went through with the op!! But i'm glad i did! I've now lost 20 pounds since the start of my pre-op diet so i feel nice and motivated to face the long journey ahead!
11.01.07 I'm now 5 weeks post op tomorrow and am 1 pound of the 2 stone mark! Everything's going fine i feel better than i have in years! No regrets!! I'm now in a size 20 so feeling super motivated to get into the 'teens' again!!
22.02.07 Well almost 11 weeks post op!! 4 pounds off the 3 stone mark!! Now a size 22 on my bottoms and a comfortable 20 on top... boy does it feel good! Better than my old 24/26 anyway!! Weightloss has had its ups and downs, had my first fill 2 weeks ago and they only put 1.8mls in. Somedays this feels enough and others i could just eat and eat :S Waiting for feedback from the hospital group as my port is tilted and they say i might need an operation to correct it. Otherwise i'll need every band fill done under x-ray which will set me back £300 a go!! I think not!! Uni is soooooooo stressful at the moment to with some luck i can get through the next 2 and a half months without collapsing!!
26.03.07 Well The Dissertation is FINISHED!!! Thought i'd share that all with you as you've all been so supportive over the last few months! I'm also now 3 stone 5 pounds lighter!! Saw Mr Sommers on 20th he manipulated my port cause apparently it was facing the wrong way!! The bit u inject to was facing my insides! So he moved that and gave me my long awaited fill! So i have a really good restriction and feeling really happy that i'm loosing weight again! Hopefully now i'm a tad less stressed i can get back into the diet and exercise and hit the 5 stone mark by my holiday on 3rd June, Big goal but i want it soooo bad!!
20.05.07 Well my holiday is 2 weeks away along with my birthday!! Feeling really good, university has finished FOREVER!!! I survived my exams but unfortunately haven't hit my 5 stone goal mark! I'm at 4 stone 3 pounds but i'm feeling that much more confident and my shape has changed so much i'm happy i'll go on holiday and enjoy wearing all my new size 18 clothes!! Feels sooooo good not to be my old size 26! When i look back to me before xmas and how i am now, i'm a completely different person! I've got so much more confidence! I actually like having my photo taken! (As you might see on my gallery!) I have absolutely no regrets what so ever!! I just can't wait to see what size i'll be for when i buy my graduation dress in august!!
20.07.07 Well 2 months on since i last updated this... and 11 pounds lighter! I've now lost 5 stone in total!!! And i feel amazing!! The holiday was fab! I even braved a bikini on the last few days!!! I would never EVER have imagine doing anything like that EVER!!!
I got me degree results... 2:1 :o) So i'm really chuffed! AND I got myself a boyfriend... one that treats me like a princess and loves me for me!! He makes me feel so special! I've longed for this for years and now I have it!!! Roll on LIFE!!!!
Dec 2009...I'm now 24 and Married!!! And 2 and a bit stone heavier than my last log in! Which is 2 years and 3 months ago!! What can i say... Life took over! I got happy and complacent and yes i gained weight but i'm still the happiest i've been compared to before my op! I've had a couple of complications, they adjusted my band too tight and me being me decided to live with it and not go back to have any fluid taken out. I slowly slipped into old eating patterns and eating chocolate or ice cream when i couldn't eat 'healthy' food because it wouldn't go down. I decided enough was enough last month and saw a consultant on the NHS. He did a barium meal under xray and confirmed my band was too tight, we went up to his clinic to take some fluid out and there we hit a problem, quite literally! My port had twisted itself round so he couldn't get the side for the needle to go in! He tried for half an hour to twist it, me almost passed out on the trolley and my husband looking increasingly worried. Long story short i need an operation to move my port and stitch it to my stomach muscle. Then and only then can i have some fluid taken out. I'm booked for my op on Saturday and i'm all set to start eating the right food and the right proportions just like when i first lost all my weight! I'm determined to get back to 5 stone weight loss and more! I want kids and i know i have a better chance weighing less..... Wish me luck!
