This is my story
Hi, I had a Gastric Band Fitted at Chelsfield Hospital on 21 Jan 2007. I weighed 15st 9lb before my pre-op diet - that's a BMI of exactly 35! I was down to 15st by my operation. I am coming up 4 weeks post-op and will be starting my 'normal' diet this Sunday 18 Feb 07. I lost 6lb during the liquid weeks but nothing during the soft food weeks - everything seems to go down too easily!
I have been fat ever since I had my first baby in 1992 - put on 3 stone while pregnant and never got rid of it (well never for longer than a few months at a time!) and another 1.5 stone since. I've tried every diet going and just Yoyo! Each time I add another 3-4lb when I meet maximum after putting all the weight back on after the last diet!
I come from a family of very large women and just don't want to go there any further. I want to be able to do sports - golf, badminton, swimming etc., and not feel out of place or overstressed.
Latest update - I've cracked 14 stone and am delighted! That was my target for skiing 31 March, so have to set a new one now. Let's say 13st 9lb - that will be exactly 2 stone lost!
Update 18 March - I've done 13st 9lb now - had a bumper week, lost 3lb. New target 13st 3lb - that's exactly 2 stone heavier than when I got married!
Update 15 April. Have made 13st 3lb. New target? Well, 12st 9lb will be exactly 3 stone lost, so that has to be it!
Update 26 April - have cracked 13stone barrier - am now 12st 13lb!!!!
Update 10 May - reached the 3 stone mark yesterday - 12st 9lb. New target 12st 3lb - one stone heavier than when I got married 16 years ago!
Update 14 June - 1 week to go to my anniversary and only 2lb lost, so looks like that target is scuppered time wise, but I will still keep aiming for it!
Update 9 September - Well I have reached 12 st 2 lb - that's exactly 1 stone to go to my target weight loss of 4 1/2 stone! Next stop 11st 13lb - just to say I'm 11 stone something!
Update 19 Nov. Well, weight hasn't changed much, but I am really happy to be able to think of myself as 'normal' looking now. I no longer feel like a surgical experiment, instead I just feel life is normal and as long as I work with my band I maintain my weight. I still hope to lose a few more lbs, but I am not anxious over it, as I look and feel so good.
