This is my story
I cant go into my whole story due to legal issues but I can summarize.
I have always been big but not overweight as such until after I had a baby and left my ex husband at 21 yrs old. I then suffered from depression and yo-yo dieting up until 2003. I then got help from my GP with weight loss drugs and was successful in losing over 100 lbs. I then made the mistake to go back to America for 10 months and I put all the weight back on.
I returned to the UK and went and saw my GP again and he put me back on the drugs and then I said to him is there any other options for me and he said only other option is surgery but that is not done on the NHS. But it planted the seed into my head that it was a choice and only money was stoping me from doing it.
I then found a surgeon who had a great flashy website and gave me great personal service and I went to see him and he seemed to have all the anwsers and convinced me to have an RNY Gastric Bypass surgery with my BMI in the morbiliy obese catagory but no other problems ie High blood pressure etc. I went along with it and trusted him.
I went for my op on 10th Jan 2005 and thats where my nightmare became a reality. I had a major leak and never woke up completely for 4 weeks. I got septecima and pharatonitis and had developed a fistula and had tubes coming out of me everywhere. I was told I had complete intestional failure. I had a breathing tube in my throat and cant really remember anything besides the most intense pain you can ever imagine and not being able to move at all.
When I was transferred to another hospital that specialised in fistulas the doctors had to leave me open to be able to pump out all the fluids that were acumulating in my stomach and body.
March 05 another op to take out all the tubes
June 05 to fix an insisional hernia and bowel resectioning
Aug 05 - Oct 05 readmitted to hospital for fluids as I couldnt eat anything
Nov 05 fix another hernia and put in a mesh and clear blockages in my bowel
May 06 - Jul 06 readmitted because I couldnt eat again and blockages
Jun06 7 hour op to fix adhesions that were causing blockages
I have had numours other hospitalisations for passing out and low blood pressure, chest pain, stomach pain and now suffer from chronic pain and fatigue. I am on morphine daily and most days dont have the energy to get out of bed.
