This is my story
Hi, I'm Penny
Had my RNY Gastric Bypass on 1st September 2008 - 3 stone down so far!
I have been overweight since ... as long as I can remember! A constant battle & never had a 'thin' day in my life! Of course it never bothered me (or so I always said!) But how did I get where I am ...
WELL ... a bout 4/5 years ago my doctor kindly informed me that I was the healthiest obese person he had ever seen (thanx!) But that's good, right! Yes, obese, but healthy - why bother then?!
Two years after that, worsening back pain (x-ray showed osteo-arthritis), high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes onset ...
Now ... border-line insulin dependant diabetes, severe back pain so I can barely go out unless I have a lift from a friend (unable to walk anywhere), even heavier, aching knees, bigger than ever ... blah blah!
The Diabetes Clinic have advised that the next step would be insulin but this will increase my weight even more, thus needing more insulin ... etc etc. Despite years of trying to lose weight & being unable to do so (I know, my fault, I'm weak, heard it all!) the only option would be Bariatric Surgery to lose a radical amount of weight in a quick time.
I have always said I would welcome having this done ... but when it is offered, in black & white, it is still such a shock. However, it really was the only option for me & ... had the op on 1st September 2008!
It's tricky at the moment but will get better I know. Also, if I hadn't had the op, I see myself in just a couple more years being house-bound & maybe even bed-bound. It had to be done.
