This is my story
Am happily married and have 2 children 15 and 10years and live in Canary Islands. I work full time sitting down all day so dont burn many calories. I have been overweight since childhood, have tried every diet imaginable for so many years and lost great amounts of weight only to regain all weight lost and more! When I think of the amount of money I have spent over the years on all these new diet fads and pills etc (which didnt work obviously) I realised that I have probably spent more on these than if I´d had surgery. I was so fed up of always battling with my weight and being made to feel like like a nobody for being fat I decided to do some research into weight loss surgery which actually took me 2 years before taking the plunge because I was so nervous and afraid I would die and leave my kids.
I had appointments with 3 surgeons (I weighed 110kg at this time)before I decided which one I was happiest with and had more or less decided to have the bypass until one of the surgeons suggested the sleeve gastrectomy which I had never heard of.He explained it has less complications than other surgeries, is done laporoscopy and takes under 2 hours. No maintenance was the way he put it, just a blood test to check on everything every 6 months. It sounded to good to be true until I started researching and all the info I found on this procedure was so positive.The part of the stomach they take away also contains the grehlin hormone which is the one that makes us hungry so if thats taken away the hunger goes too.
I made my decision and had had a sleeve gastrectomy and in 3 months have lost a total of 29 kilos.I feel great,so much happier and healthier. I never feel hungry and my taste has definately changed. I try to eat every 3 hours and although I can eat anything now I tend to keep to mostly proteins, (although I have had the odd small slice of birthday cake and a glass of wine).My health has improved, I can walk for miles.The difference in the way people treat me is amazing especially the ones who didnt even look your way when you were fat and made you feel like you were invisible.
I wish I could have done this years ago.I now walk every day without pain and breathlessness,have joined the gym and actually enjoy going every day.Every day it just gets better.
I can only tell you my experience which has been so positive I would recommend this type of surgery to anyone.
