This is my story
Hi
I'm 41 was banded on 17th June 2007 after deliberating for 3 years. I am bored with being seen as fat and lazy, as that's not who I am. I am active, go to the gym, walk the dog, etc etc but obviously have some kind of asbestos metabolism which conserves every single calorie I intake.
Although all my family (parents & siblings) have weight problems, I was a normal size until around 16 when I royally screwed my metabolism by working in an american diner and eating huge meals after shift at midnight. I then spent my 20's dieting and thinking I was fat, when in fact I was a size 14 - 16 (oh to be a 14 again!!), gave up in my 30's and had children and don't want to spend my 40's battling every single mouthful. I just want to live my life and enjoy it, and be a normal size.
Having a band to me is accepting that I need some help and can't do this on my own. It's been hard admitting that defeat, but I don't feel beaten, I just feel like this is the help I need and so I'm going to take it.
If I could dispel one myth about the band it is that it's the easy way out, and that it will do all the work for you. You still have to watch what you eat, junk just slips straight through so if you have problems with that area then the band is not going to help you. All the band is, is a tool which can help you, if you use it correctly.
