This is my story
I first gained weight aged 16 when I left school & stopped running & training for boxing. Over time I progressed to 18 stone after I stopped smoking having found a replacement in midget gems & sports mixtures, pound a day. I then found myself a job working in a pizza restaurant eating 2 delicious pizzas night 4 nights a week.
2 Years ago I found out I had type 2 diabetes after collapsing at the doctors surgery aged 35!!!!! My GP thought I had a heart attack & I rushed into the cardiology unit at my local hospital by ambulance sirens blazing. I was so relieved to discover it was diabetes then decided to do something about it.
At first weightloss was easy as I had been scared into doing it then slowly old habits returned, it didn't matter if I had that bacon roll or that BLT sandwich or fish & chips from the chippy. Then last year at my work they started a running class for beginnersm so I bravely went for it. The first meeting we had to run & walk for 1 mile after 150 yards I was totally exhausted & said to the gym instructor I am not going to finish this & I was calling it a day. To which she said just walk around with me. That first 1 mile took 23 embarassing minutes fortunately I wasn't alone.
My instructor encouraged me to progress and gradually I got better & better so much so I did a charity 5km race in 28 minutes. Then came the dark nights & the class was closed for winter, my gym instructor then told me about bodypump classes, me go into a gym???? you must be joking, but she talked me into it & I got the bug going 3 to 4 times a week. Then at New Year I made my resolution that this year was going to finally be the one when I reach my wight goal & joined the gym. I can truly say it was one of the best things I had ever done. At first I was very apprehensive, but once again my instructor told me when the gym was quiet for my induction so I would not be embarrassed. The first time I went on my own I was amazed how many people there where actually bigger than me, sure there where fit people there but the majority where just like me trying to get thin & in shape. I now have another 25 pound to go to meet my target & I am confident I can do it this year. As for the running..... well this year I have ran 2 10km races & our group is talking about doing the Great North Run next year 13 miles of it. Who would have thought it 3 years ago huh.....
