This is my story
I am a married mother of two children living in the UK. I have had a weight problem since I was 6yrs old - My mother was around 30 stone through my life, she developed Diabetes at 36yrs, a yr older than myself now <08>.

I am a very emotional eater and found food to be a comfort. My home life was not a pleasant one and by the age of 16yrs I had my own pad. My parents had separated and life for me, was all about surviving. At School I lost 7 stone < I was 17 stone by the age of 12 > it was such a achievement for me to be a size 10 - 12. Then as I mentioned I left home and things were pretty normal weight wise - However my father had a stroke and eventually died - It was his death that was the most distressing part for me, although I knew he was happy he would be in peace.

I put on 6 stone in 7 months and went to the Dr's. I thought I was going mad as I did not change my eating all that much - Then I was diagnosed with poly cystic ovaries. The thought of not having any children pushed us to choose to have children. So at 17 Stone I had my first child putting on a further 2 stone and my second child 2 yr's later took me to 20 stone - I reached my highest weight in the year of 2007 at 23 stone .
This was the year that my diabetic mother, had to have 3 toes chopped off due to gangerine. And it all boiled down to her diet and the diabetes - I remembering afterwards when she was all safe, out in recovery, I went home and cried and cried I thought - Oh S**@! What the hell have I done to myself ?!

Then and there my 'Weight Loss Mission' began. Diets were taken more seriously- pills were taken - then I JUST thought 'I can't afford to go on like this any more'. So, I applied for funding on the NHS and they said 'I was NOT BIG ENOUGH!' How UNREAL < moving swiftly on from my urge to rant about this>... A solution came, I talked my mum into having surgery and applying. It would have taken her so long to get through the NHS list that a decision was made and we went to see someone privately - Dr Christiaan De Bruyne was our choice after days of research.

We saw him and he is truly a WONDERFUL man ... Sadly, my mum was not well enough for surgery and Dr De Bruyne said 'that if this was my mother, I would not let her have this operation' - He did not have to do that and could of just taken our money and blamed it on percentages - But he didn't < How rare is that? I am Positive some others would have taken the cash. I also found out that Dr De Bruyne sister had it done < So he truly empathises with his patients & he has had no fatalities in 10 years -

I had my surgery on the 15 January 2008 - The Operation was 45 mins and I was in recovery for 4 hours.

If you are looking for advice and have not had surgery yet - I Highly recommend Dr Christiaan De Bruyne. I would also say to you, that this is HARD WORK - Until you get restriction or some sort of saity you need to DIET. Yes with the lap band you need to eat healthily and the sooner you start, the better your success and the faster you will lose weight - Lil ol me though 'Oh right! Now I will eat what I want but in moderation..... errrrrrrrr < WRONG! You are HUNGRY until you get that restriction - It is not the Dr's Fault and you need to work with him - Would I do it again? In a heart beat.

Good Luck to those of you that are considering your journey and hi to my fellow BANDSERS.
