This is my story
...
Hi.
Well here i am 13 weeks post op. (Bypass) For anyone out there who is as desperate and unhappy with their weight as i was. Let me tell you that this was the best thing that has ever happened to me. It has changed my life and sense of well being so quickly.
I was 16 stone 4lb as i am only 5ft i looked like a barrel.
In August 2008 i was advised that i needed to loose 10kg pre op to show willing, to get as fit as possible for the operation and to get into the right frame of mind for the post op eating plan.
I suffer from type 2 diabeties (tablet controled) and asthma (steriods twice a day). I didn't think it would be possible to loose that weight, i'd never managed it before, but i realised that the op would not take place until i did what they asked and prove i was serious about this.. I decided to bite the bullet and join the gym. I must have looked very odd. apart from my size i wore sunglasses the whole time i was there. My idea being that if i couldn't see anyone then they couldn't see me!! I even took my trainers with me on an all inclusive holiday. I went back to the Docs at the end of October 10kg lighter......
My operation took place in Taunton on Monday 9th of December. loosing weight and getting healthier certainly helped me to deal and recover from the operation much quicker and i was home by Wednesday afternoon.
I can honestly say that i have never looked back. I kept waiting for the bubble to burst but it didn't. I feel better and healthier as each day goes by. Instead of the jolly fat girl trying to pretend it's o.k. I am now quietly confident, happy within myself. I still make mistakes, eating too fast or too much but one the whole for anyone like me this operation is the answer....
Today I am 11 stone 11lb!! (No longer take any medications for asthma or diabeties) Four and a half stone lighter. (A sack of spuds). So good luck anyone out there embarking on this journey. It's the best thing i ever did.
