This is my story
Not sure where to start but my wls journey has not been an easy one. I have recently come accross this site and thought that I would join to see if I can help anyone or get help for myself'
I was banded by Mr S**** in Birmingham in March 2005. I was only offered the SAGB not a bypass, but he did tell me if the band didnt work I could have a bypass. 16 months later I have lost 14 stones I only have 4 ml in my band.
My weight loss it partly due to the band and partly due to having contacted MRSA due to lifesaving surgery and I have been really ill and had 13 lots of surgery due to this with more to come.
I have osophogus problems every time I eat solids I stretch it and it is now dangerous for me. I do not get on with the dietian and am now fed up with the lack of aftercare we cannot see the surgeon post op.
I am now looking into having a revision to an rny and I am trying to convince my pct to fund it for me. I do not know who to contact but I am trying to find a new surgeon.
The hospital often contact me to go and talk to people who are thinking about the band and I often visit them post op.
I would tell anyone who is considering wls to research which is the best for them unless they are only offered one type of surgery but I also tell them that the problems that I have had are unusual and they should not experience them. The offer of wls at all is fantastic and if like me they have no choice other than to have surgery or die they have to take it.
It has not been easy for me to live with the band nor is it for most bandsters but I am now at the end of my tether with it, and cannot get the help that I need.
