This is my story
Skinny all the way until the grand old age of 6, and then ballooned. So here I am at 38, diabetic, high blood pressure and high cholesterol and with a BMI of 35 and hating my flabby bits. I've no kids I can blame the stretch marks on (might be pushing it to try and blame step-son!)
Have dieted since the age of 10 with no success. Was single for many years in my late 20s and early 30s and managed to stick to Slimming World long enough to drop to ALMOST a size 14. At which point I met hubby-to-be, started cooking real meals again, and here I am 1½ stone and 3 years later. While I'm smaller than many others who've taken the plunge, personal tragedies in a friend's life recently have made me think 'Why am I living with these swords hanging over my head? If dieting doesn't work, do something else!'. So my goal isn't XX kilos or XX dress size, but it's being off medication and regaining my health.
So, gastric band was put in on 20th March - there's no going back now! Onward and downwards.....
30th June - god bless the band fill. Now firmly out of the 'obese' category and into the 'overweight' and NEVER going back.
30th July - am in a size 14 skirt - glory hallelujah! It may be tight but I'm in it, it's doing up and it's NOT strained at the seams. Have halved my medication and my blood sugar is still lower than it's ever been before. Result on all fronts.
29th August - have now lost half of my excess weight, my diabetes medication is a third of its original dose and I'm shopping in Wallis and Monsoon instead of Evans and Ann Harvey (damn Jane Norman for having particularly small size 16s - I wanted that coat!)
29th September - have started running (only 3 times so far so not enough for it to become 'habit'!), have pretty much given up taking the metformin (don't tell my Dr or they'll make me pay for my remaining prescriptions! I've already saved the NHS a fortune for my op/future healthcare so I figure they owe me this) and the restriction continues nicely.
