This is my story
My name's Kat, and I was born without a hip socket on my right side. But, despite my mother's best harrassment of professionals, they didn't believe something was wrong with me until I was 4 and went to nursery - when they thought I was being abused as I was walking with a limp randomly. So, once my mum got over the trauma of being called an abuser, she finally got a doctor to listen. However, by this time I was 4 1/2 years old, and the condition I'd been walking with was really severe and of course had damaged myself even more.

It's now nearly 20 years since that first operation, and despite 3 further extensive surgeries, professionals have warned me after each one that it won't last more than a few years. And they're always right, although I try not to let it win. But ovbiously I live my life in extreme cronic pain needing high doses of very addictive pain killers to just manage. And despite my best efforts, my weight constantly balloons up and down, but in the last 5 years, it's been constantly increasing.

Through this time I had periods of depression and highs, both of which brought with them inappropriate food and alcohol choices. Which led me to be 23 years old and 23 1/2 stone. Which is quite ironic, as from the age of 10, I've always been the same age and weight. But the thought of being 24 and 24 stone, 25 and 25 stone just shocked me to my core.

Within reason I didn't let my weight stop me from doing stuff, I got married, have a good job etc. But the pain in my hip has been increasing quickly with every lb i gained. To the point where I was on Morphine and it wasn't even really touching the pain.

So, I made a decision to do something drastic, approached my GP and she supported me to apply for a Gastic Bypass. That was in March 2008, and it's now November and I'm a few days after my bypass. I tried to keep up my blog daily after the surgery, so that people will realise the weird-alien-feeling-emotions are relatively normal, but that you will come through it with a positive.

So, check my blog, message me, ask questions - whatever. The people on here helped me so much in my decisions, that I hope to do the same for them and others starting where I was.
