This is my story
I am the text book morbidly obese case. Yo-yo dieting since a child, periods of depression (some severe) during my adult years, diets all seem to work for me...it's me that fail them.....hence the yo-yoing (I lost 7 stones twice and 9 stones once only to put it all back and some) - I seem to have lost over 50 stones over the years....and put on over 60!!!
Health has suffered (type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, depression, arthritis) and social life....what social life??? Kids suffered cos I could not do anything energetic with them, and then to top it all, at the age of 42 I was retired from work due to my ill-health...so there I was on the scrap heap waiting to die...just because I am fat.
Long story, but got a gastric band fitted in 2003 and lost weight well (12 stones) during the first year....then the black dog kept calling which resulted in me eating all the wrong stuff for comfort, and I have put on 6 stones of that which I lost.....so don't think that weight loss surgery is the be all and end all.....as with the band, you still have to diet and make all the right food choices and exercise to lose the weight.
I am, however, very thankful to be alive and I do feel better. I have a long way to go, but hopefully when my head gets into gear, the weightloss will follow.
This desease of ours is a killer, and like alcoholics, there is no known cure.
