This is my story
I have loved food all my life, so much so that some of my most vivid memories of childhood are linked with food and the lovely people who provided it - my mum and grandma. They were both great cooks - good sensible Yorkshire fare but plenty of it! i had a weight problem in junior school and had some teasing at school, but I slimmed down in my mid teens and remained so until I had my first child. I had dabbled with slimming clubs in my early 20s (when I really didn't need to lose weight) and then completely lost control during my 1st pregnancy and the subsequent 2 without losing the baby weight inbetween. Not good. Fast forward to age 40 - I had just completed my degree and had become very sedentary - the weight had piled on to nearly 20 stones. I had become extremely unfit and decided to do something about it. I was taking 4 hourly painkillers for hip and knee pain by this point. I had an 'MOT' at my GPs surgery which revealed blood sugars which were borderline too high and also high BP. I managed to lose 2 stone with Slimming World and joined a gym, which has turned my life around. I now do gym, aquarobics and swimming regularly and feel well, but my weight has not budged for over a year and I am now offic ially diabetic - Type 2 diet controlled. Last year I started a long investigation into bariatric surgery and have been accepted for gastric banding, which is going to happen in 10 days! I am nervous but hopeful and determined that this will help me to lose weight and keep it off and reduce my chances of obesity related illnesses. I hope to make some new friends on here and look forward to chatting to other people about their experiences.
July 2009 Update
I was banded on 18th March 2009 and enjoying the results of that now. Feel that my goal is now possible.
