This is my story
At the risk of sounding smug, I have a lifelong history of sports and fitness. At 53 I am slim at 160 lb, and still very fit through a combination of limited work-load, cycling/gym-work, and good diet.
My wife, Lynne, is in a similar situation and works with our local council (South Cambridgeshire) to help reduce obesity in both children and adults in our area who can now be "referred for exercise" and dietary advice by their GPs. The scheme is very successful and costs the Council a minimal amount.
See Lynne's website at www.fitness4health.co.uk
Of course weight gain is simply caused by taking in more calories than we burn, but the issues around this are a very complex mix of heredity, hormones, activity and dietary education. Perhaps the most shocking part of the cause is the APPALLING LACK OF EDUCATION about the food we eat. Attributable to powerful advertising of sugar intensive foods/drinks combined with poor parenting and lack of early school education.
I would dearly love to be part of the process in correcting this imbalance..........
