This is my story
Weight has been an issue for me since my late teens, but only became a serious problem in my late 20s, when I piled on the pounds (about 2 stone) after being made redundant. Terrified, I joined WeightWatchers and lost it all. That didn't last long though, and it gradually crept back on, year by year.

Now I find it almost impossible to keep to a sensible regime for long enough for it to have any real effect on my weight. The good work is undone in no time at all, and then I find myself at a slightly higher weight at the end of it.

I can't remember how many times I've joined a gym to go only in the first 2 months, then carry on paying the monthly fee without every going back (punishing myself financially, as well as every other way!). I always think I will find the determination to do something about the weight, but then don't.

Like lots of us, I have fairly good insight into the various reasons why I overeat, but even knowing all of this doesn't stop me from doing it. Hypnotherapy had no effect, nor did counselling, other than being rather a distressing experience.

I use food as both a crutch and a recreation.

I have now been looking into the lap band surgery, and have been to an open day to find out about it. I had a consult with a surgeon booked for today, but it was cancelled from his end due to train strikes. How frustrating is that! Once you decide you want to go ahead, you just want to get on with it.

I'm particularly interested in hearing from anyone who has gone the lap band route, or is thinking about it.

Thanks for reading this story and whatever your chosen means of combatting this horrible condition, I wish you the best of luck.
